Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will attend India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on October 22 and hold discussions with representatives of more than 20 major companies to attract investments in the chemical and petrochemical sectors, an official statement said on Wednesday.
During his two-day visit to Mumbai, Majhi will participate in the inaugural session and the CEO Roundtable, which will be chaired by Union Minister J. P. Nadda, according to a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Odisha.
The State government aims to showcase Odisha’s industrial strengths, investment-ready infrastructure, progressive policies and resource advantages to position the State as a preferred destination for chemical and petrochemical manufacturing.
During the visit, the Chief Minister is scheduled to hold one-on-one meetings with leading industry representatives to explore investment opportunities in industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing and the establishment of new industrial ventures in Odisha.
A key highlight of the State’s participation will be a presentation on coal gasification, an emerging area of industrial opportunity for Odisha. The State may also announce plans to establish a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park to strengthen its industrial ecosystem and attract investments across the chemical, petrochemical, plastics and packaging segments.
Odisha will participate in the event alongside Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, providing an opportunity to engage with domestic and international industry stakeholders and explore partnerships to accelerate industrial growth.
The chemical and petrochemical sector is a priority area for Odisha as it seeks to diversify its industrial base, strengthen manufacturing value chains and promote value addition. The State intends to leverage its resource base and established strengths in mining and metallurgy to expand into downstream and higher-value manufacturing.
According to the CMO statement, Odisha has attracted 56 companies in the chemical and petrochemical sector, representing proposed investments of Rs 1,93,087.94 crore and the potential to generate employment for 1,12,324 people.
Of these, 27 projects have been grounded or inaugurated, involving investments of Rs 60,825.34 crore and the potential to generate 35,351 jobs, the statement said.

With our industrial infrastructure, progressive policies and resource advantages, we are working to build a competitive ecosystem for the chemical and petrochemical industries. The proposed dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park and our focus on coal gasification will further strengthen these efforts and open up new avenues for investment, value addition and employment generation.”
He also highlighted the potential of the State’s chemical and petrochemical sector, saying, “The recent groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony in Jajpur further highlights the growing potential of Odisha’s chemical and petrochemical sector. Of the 53 projects in the sector, nine projects—comprising five inaugurations and four groundbreaking ceremonies—represent an investment of Rs 4,136 crore and are expected to generate employment opportunities for 1,508 people. These projects mark another significant step towards strengthening the State’s industrial ecosystem, expanding manufacturing capabilities and creating employment opportunities.”
The State government’s participation in India Chem 2026 is expected to strengthen Odisha’s engagement with major industry players and generate further interest in investment opportunities in the chemical and petrochemical sectors. The focused outreach reflects the government’s commitment to translating investor interest into projects on the ground, creating employment opportunities and accelerating industrial development across the State.
