Malkangiri: Doctors at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Malkangiri have successfully removed a massive ovarian cyst weighing around 20 kg from a Class XII student from neighbouring Chhattisgarh, in a complex surgical procedure performed on October 21.
The achievement has drawn appreciation for the medical team led by Dr Sapan Kumar Dinda, whose expertise and coordinated efforts were instrumental in carrying out the surgery.
The patient, identified as Tulasi Sodi, is a student who stays in a hostel while pursuing her studies. Her family hails from the Bangabari area under Sarona block in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, with reported links to the Udlatarai area of Sukma district.
The removal of the unusually large cyst involved a challenging procedure that required considerable surgical skill and careful medical management. Other doctors and healthcare personnel who assisted in the operation have also been commended for their contribution.
Tulasi’s mother, maternal uncle, and sister were present at the hospital during the procedure to support her.
The successful operation has highlighted the capabilities of the government healthcare system in Malkangiri, demonstrating that complex surgical interventions can be undertaken at the district-level hospital.
The medical team has been widely congratulated on the achievement, with wishes for the student’s speedy recovery.
