Malkangiri: Odisha Minister Nityananda Gond on Tuesday reviewed cyclone preparedness and emergency response measures in Malkangiri district as the administration stepped up efforts to minimise the impact of Cyclone Arnab.
After touring the district, Gond visited the multipurpose cyclone shelter at Dhungiaput in Mathili block and assessed the arrangements made for people in vulnerable areas.
In the presence of senior IAS officer Yedula Vijay and the District Collector, the minister reviewed the availability of food, drinking water and healthcare services at the shelters.
The administration has been directed to deploy Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams to tackle possible flood situations and maintain strict vigil over the Pangam pool, which has been identified as a point requiring close monitoring.
With the administration aiming for zero casualties, officials have been asked to remain alert and ensure that emergency response arrangements are in place.
Gond urged people to remain cautious and follow the administration’s advisories without panicking.
