Bhubaneswar: A local political representative was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a young woman at an OYO hotel in the Bomikhal area of Bhubaneswar, police said.
The accused, identified as Sashikanta Lenka alias Alok, is a resident of Tihudi village under Niali block in Kataka district and currently serves as a Samiti Member.
According to police sources, Lenka allegedly lured the woman to Bhubaneswar with various promises before taking her to an OYO hotel in Bomikhal, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her against her will.
The survivor subsequently lodged a complaint at Laxmisagar police station, following which police registered a case and launched an investigation. The woman also underwent a medical examination as part of the investigation.
Police arrested Lenka on Saturday after preliminary investigation and examination of the medical findings, sources said.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence, police added.
