Bhubaneswar: Educational institutions in Odisha’s Malkangiri district will remain closed till November 4 as a precautionary measure in view of the possibility of another cyclonic storm forming over the Bay of Bengal and the heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), officials said on Sunday.
Malkangiri Collector and District Magistrate Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke issued an order directing the closure of all Anganwadi centres, schools and degree colleges in the district from November 2 to 4.
The order covers primary, upper primary and secondary schools, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), higher secondary institutions and degree colleges.
The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students in view of the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
However, teaching and non-teaching staff of schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres have been directed to attend their duties as usual.
“Their services may be utilised by the administration for relief and restoration activities,” the order stated.
Meanwhile, the district administration has intensified emergency preparedness measures to minimise the potential impact of the impending cyclonic storm ‘Murasu’.
Adopting a ‘zero casualty’ approach, the administration has issued a series of directives to various departments to ensure the safety of lives, livelihoods and property.
