Bhubaneswar: Students from five government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and a government engineering institution have joined repair and restoration efforts in cyclone-hit Ganjam district, helping restore damaged water supply systems and electrical equipment, officials said on Tuesday.
The students have also successfully repaired damaged electrical equipment at the Asika Sub-Divisional Hospital, contributing to efforts to restore essential services disrupted by Cyclone ‘Arnab’.
Students from Government ITIs at Brahmapur, Sheragada, Purusottampur, Hinjilikatu and Chhatrapur, along with those from Uma Charan Patnaik Engineering School in Brahmapur, are participating in the restoration drive.
They are undertaking repair work on damaged electrical equipment, water pumps and water supply systems in different parts of the district to help restore normalcy in the affected areas.
The restoration activities are being carried out under the direct supervision of the district administration. Each team of students has been assigned a designated supervisor to guide and coordinate the repair work.
The initiative has provided students an opportunity to apply their technical knowledge and practical skills in addressing challenges faced by communities affected by the cyclone.
Their participation has also highlighted the role of technical educational institutions in supporting disaster response, rehabilitation and restoration efforts.
