Bhubaneswar: Students in flood-hit Ganjam and Gajapati districts, who lost their books in Cyclone Arnab, will soon receive fresh textbooks, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said on Thursday.
The two districts were among the worst affected by the cyclone and subsequent floods, which caused extensive damage to school buildings and severely disrupted children’s education. “We have sought reports from the District Education Officers regarding repair of schools damaged by the cyclone and floods,” Gond said.
He said many students had lost their textbooks and other study materials in the disaster. To ensure their studies do not suffer, the government has decided to provide them with new textbooks.
“We have spoken to the Secretary of the Board of Secondary Education, who will arrange the supply of textbooks to the affected students,” the minister added.
The government is also collecting detailed information on damage caused to school infrastructure to facilitate necessary repair work in the affected districts.
