Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Friday raided the residence of former Rajya Sabha MP N Bhaskar Rao in Rayagada in connection with an alleged Rs 80-crore fraud involving a local truck owners’ association.
As per reports, the team has been camping in Rayagada for the last two days and is probing allegations of financial irregularities.
The probe is based on a complaint lodged by late Y Venkateshwar Rao, the former Truck Owners’ Association president. He had alleged that the ex-MP, along with others, siphoned off close to Rs 80 crore from the association’s funds. Rayagada police had later transferred the case to the Crime Branch. It is learnt that a 25-member team of the Crime Branch is investigating the matter.
Sources said Bhaskar Rao is currently not present in Rayagada. The EOW team is stationed at his residence in Rayagada and is questioning some of his aides. However, EOW officials are refusing to share more details in this regard.
