With the general elections-2019 inching closer, loan waiver has become a buzz word jostling for garnering votes and coming to power following which the recent assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh (MP), Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan won by Congress are glaring instances.

In the wake of Congress making farm loan waiver a main poll plank and has been able to topple the BJP-ruled governments of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan in the recently concluded assembly elections, the issue has now turned into a political agenda in Odisha as the general elections (both Lok Sabha and Assembly) are slated in 2019.
The looming cyclone ‘Phethai’ on Bay of Bengal has kept Odisha Government on its toes and emergency control rooms in all districts have been kept on alert, informed Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi today.

As Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in all the 30 districts and heavy rainfall in six districts of southern parts of Odisha due to the deep depression formed over Bay of Bengal, Odisha Government has already alerted the District Collectors to ensure that there is no crop damage while farmers have been warned and asked to get the harvested crop safely stored.
