Principal Of Higher Secondary School Caught Taking Rs 80K Bribe, Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today arrested a principal of a higher secondary school in Bolangir district on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from the assistant librarian of the same institution for not suspending him from service.

According to a press release issued by the Vigilance, Minati Rath, In-charge Principal, Panchayat Samiti Higher Secondary School, Bangomunda in Bolangir district was today caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance, Sambalpur Division for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from  Dolamani Meher, Assistant Librarian of the said School for not suspending him from service.

Basing on a complaint by Meher, Vigilance laid a trap and accused Rath was caught red-handed by the officers of the anti-corruption agency while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

Rath directed the complainant to keep the bribe money on her drawing table.

The bribe money was recovered from the drawing table of Rath and seized in presence of witnesses.

Wash of the contacted portion of table cloth gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance of bribe money by her.

The residential house of Rath at Jhankarpada, under Bangopada police limits, was searched by the anti-corruption agency.

Vigilance has registered a case against Rath under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and she has been arrested.

Investigation in the matter is underway, the press release added.
