Bhubaneswar: The coveted “Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2020”, India’s highest science award, has been bagged by Odisha-born scientist Prof Jyotirmayee Dash for her outstanding contribution to the field of chemical sciences.
Born in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, she is claimed to be the first ever Odia woman to win such an award in science and technology. She is stated to be one among the 12 scientists to win the award.
It was announced on Saturday on the occasion of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)’s foundation day.
As per reports, Indian scientists below the age of 45 are bestowed with the award for their exceptional research in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Environment Science, Medicine and Engineering.
Reports added that Prof Jyotirmayee Dash has done her post graduation in Chemistry from Odisha’s historic alma mater Ravenshaw University, while her doctorate degree (Ph.D) has been awarded by the prestigious IIT Kanpur.
