Akshay Oberoi: ‘Pizza’ Marked My Journey Into The Horror Genre

Mumbai: As ‘Pizza’ completes a decade in Hindi cinema, actor Akshay Oberoi reflects on how the film marked his entry into the horror genre, which he believes remains largely unexplored in its full potential within Indian cinema.

Akshay said: ” ‘Pizza’ holds a special place in my heart as it marked my journey into the horror genre, which remains largely unexplored in its full potential within Indian cinema. Even after a decade, the film continues to resonate with audiences, underscoring our collective fascination with supernatural thrillers.”

‘Pizza’ is a remake of the Tamil film of the same name.

It revolves around a delivery boy named Kunal, portrayed by Akshay, whose ordinary life takes a terrifying turn when a routine delivery unravels a web of dark secrets within a seemingly innocent household.

“While ‘Pizza’ was a significant step forward, I believe there’s still much ground to cover in pushing the boundaries of horror storytelling in India. We have merely scratched the surface of what the genre can achieve in terms of narrative complexity and audience engagement,” he said.

Talking about work, Akshay was last seen on screen in the Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Fighter’.

The actor made his acting debut as a child in the 2002 comedy-drama ‘American Chai’.

The film ‘Isi Life Mein’ was his first lead role, after which he was featured in movies such as ‘Pizza’, ‘Piku’, ‘Fitoor’, ‘Gurgaon’, ‘Kaalakaandi’, ‘I Love You’, and ‘Gaslight’.

The actor will next be seen in ‘Dil Hai Gray’.

In ‘Dil Hai Gray’, Akshay will be seen playing a negative role, for which he has taken inspiration from Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the 1993 film ‘Darr’.
