16 Maoists, Including 3 With Bounty Of 1 Lakh, Surrender In Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada

Malkangiri: 16 Maoists, including three with a reward of Rs 1 lakh each, surrendered in Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, police said on Friday.

Janmilitia Commanders Rajesh Bhaskar, Bheema Telaam and Budhram had rewards on their heads. The rest are lower-rung members of the outfit, the official notification added. All of these Naxals were involved in illegal activities and have several cases lodged against them.

All of them surrendered in presence of Dantewada SP Dr Abhisek Pallav, and other senior officials from CRPF and district police force.

Under the initiative, called ‘lon varratu’ in the local Gondi dialect, Maoists are being asked to return to the mainstream. The state government also provides monetary relief to start their life anew under this rehabilitation scheme.

In the last two months, 83 including 20 with rewards on their heads have surrendered under the ‘lon varratu’ initiative.
