Bhubaneswar: A major operation by security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has resulted in the deaths of at least 22 Maoists. The encounter occurred on the Karregutta hill, located on the border with Telangana, after a two-week-long joint operation by security forces.
The operation, part of the anti-Maoist initiative Operation Sankalp, involved personnel from the CRPF, Police, District Reserve Guard, and Special Task Force. Senior officers from the CRPF and Police closely monitored the operation, national media reported.
The gunfight broke out in the early hours in the dense forests of Karregutta hill, a known Maoist stronghold. This operation is one of the largest anti-Maoist operations in the region’s history, aimed at dismantling Maoist strongholds across the Bastar division.
The security forces had received information about a large Maoist presence in the area and had been conducting a joint operation to flush them out. The successful operation resulted in a significant blow to the Maoist movement in the region.
