Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu has approved Gallantry awards to 70 Armed Forces personnel, including six posthumous, on the eve of 77th Republic Day. These include one Ashok Chakra; three Kirti Chakras; 13 Shaurya Chakras, including one posthumous; one Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry); 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry), including five posthumous; six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has been awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, for becoming the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 mission. Shukla, who made history in June 2025, is the second Indian to travel to space, following Rakesh Sharma’s 1984 mission. He spent 18 days aboard the ISS, conducting over 60 scientific experiments.
