A Day After Quitting ‘Active Politics’, Nilesh Rane Changes Mind

Mumbai: A day after deciding to abruptly quit ‘active politics’, former MP and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nilesh N. Rane has apparently backtracked and will continue to work for the party in Sindhudurg and other districts in the coastal Konkan region.

The son of Union MSME Minister Narayan Rane, Nilesh Rane’s move came after a marathon meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan here on Wednesday.

Emerging from the meeting, Chavan said that they held discussions with Fadnavis on various issues to sort out political differences for nearly two hours.

“We also discussed it with Narayan Rane and now with Fadnavis. Our stand is that there should be no injustice with the ordinary activists who are working for the party at lower levels,” said Chavan.

The party leadership will also consider the issues raised by Nilesh Rane and decide on it, and the sentiments of the workers shall be respected, he added.

Chavan also urged Nilesh Rane not to pursue the decision to quit ‘active politics’ and assured that there will not be any problems for anybody who contests the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Chavan said that now the party will work with Nilesh Rane in Sindhudurg district and also the entire Konkan region without any hassles.

However, Nilesh Rane, who was present alongside Chavan, did not offer any comments on the matter.

Apparently peeved by purported in-fighting and alleged interference from Chavan’s camp in Sindhudurg, Nilesh Rane on Tuesday suddenly decided to step out of ‘active politics’ and not contest any elections henceforth.

The announcement on X created a flutter in the BJP circles with many senior leaders from the state and Konkan trying to convince him to retract and continue working as before in the party.
