New Delhi: Officials probing the murder of a Amazon senior manager by unknown five miscreants in the Bhajanpura area of the national capital are investigating the possible involvement of a local gang led by gangster Maya, alias Sameer, in the crime.
According to the officials, they are investigating the incident from all angles, including personal enmity and robbery.
The deceased was identified as Harpreet Gill, and the injured, Govind Singh (32) is undergoing treatment at a hospital, said the officials.
An investigation by six teams is currently underway in connection with the case.
“Initial inquiry has indicated the occurrence of a dispute between individuals, leading to the incident, although the accuracy of the details is being verified. The injured party has disclosed that the presumed culprits were approximately 18 to 19 years old,” said the sources.
“The name of a local criminal known as Maya has surfaced as one of the potential suspects. The investigation is on and will delve further into these matters,” the sources added.
As per the police, the incident occurred around 11:37 p.m on Tuesday at Subhash Vihar in Bhajanpura and the police control room call was made at 11:53 p.m.
Upon reaching the spot, it was found that Harpreet and Govind were going on their Splendour bike near Gali No. 8 when five men on a scooty and a bike intercepted them.
“The assailants opened unprovoked fire and fled from the spot,” said a senior police official.
Harpreet, who worked as a senior manager in Amazon, suffered a gunshot injury on his head and was declared brought dead at the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
“Govind also sustained a bullet wound and has been referred to the LNJP hospital for further treatment,” said the official.
“The official said that CCTV in the area is being scanned to identify the culprits.
“The motive behind the firing incident was being ascertained. A case of murder has been registered,” the official added.
Karnail Singh, the father of the deceased Gill, recounted, “Upon returning from work, I learned that Harpreet had gone for a walk. My brother-in-law accompanied him at the time of the unfortunate incident.”
“Subsequently, we received a distressing call informing us that he had been fatally shot,” Karnail said.
The grieving mother expressed her resolve to fight for justice.
