New Delhi:  In view of prevailing flood situation, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V. K . Saxsena on Thursday issued work from home advisory for private establishments till Sunday (July 16) and directed authorities to ensure sufficient food, drinking water, medical aid and mobile toilets at relief camps.

Schools and private colleges in the national capital will remain closed till Sunday, a statement from the L-G office said.

The decisions were taken during the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, during which he requested people to avoid unnecessary travel and commuting.

In addition to the 12 NDRF teams operational in the city, additional teams have been deployed to assist in relief and rescue measures at sites prone to flooding.

The meeting also discussed water rationing in the city in light of the closure of water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla to ensure drinking water supply.

Other decisions taken at the meeting are: Inter-state buses coming to ISBT, Kashmere Gate, will be stopped at Singhu Border, and DTC buses will be provided to ferry passengers from there. Business and commercial establishments in and around Kashmere Gate have been asked to close until the situation improves.

The meeting was informed that people who have been evacuated from flooded areas will be shifted to neighbouring government school buildings.

Additional personnel will be deployed for traffic management in affected areas. It was decided that restricted entry should be enforced at Chilla, Loni, and Badarpur, allowing only heavy vehicles carrying essential goods.

The meeting also discussed taking precautionary and proactive relief and preventive measures for areas like Sonia Vihar, Mukherjee Nagar, and Haqeeqat Nagar.

“Crematoriums in the vicinity of those closed down due to rising water levels will remain shut until the situation improves. The health infrastructure in the city will remain alert for any eventuality and ensure preparedness to handle the situation once the water recedes.”

Delhi Chief Minister and DDMA Vice-Chairperson Arvind Kejriwal, Revenue Minister Atishi, Water, Irrigation & Flood Control Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, senior officers of concerned departments, among others attended the meeting.
