Guwahati: Two more ministers will be inducted into the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led cabinet in Assam on Thursday.
Nalbari MLA, Jayanta Malla Baruah, and BJP legislator from Haflong, Nandita Garlosa will take oath in a function here at Sankardeva Kalakhetra on Thursday afternoon.
This is the first cabinet expansion after Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed power in May last year.
Earlier on Wednesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that two berths in his cabinet will be filled up. However, he then did not disclose their identities.
Jayanta Malla Baruah was a two-time MLA in Assam.
In 2011, he won on a Congress ticket but switched to BJP with Himanta Biswa Sarma. But, he failed to obtain a party nomination in the 2016 assembly poll.
Last year, he again won from his earlier Nalbari assembly seat. He has been a close aide of Sarma for a long time and also worked as his political secretary.
Garlosa was elected as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Haflong constituency of Dima Hasao district.
Earlier, there were speculations that one cabinet berth may go between two alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) of the BJP in the state.
With the latest inclusions, Sarma still has the liberty to fill up a maximum of three more berths. The Chief Minister already said that this is a small expansion and a more extensive reshuffle may follow later.
