Bhubaneswar: At least two persons were killed and several others were injured on Wednesday after being hit by a train near Kaljariya between Jamtara and Vidyanagar in Jharkhand.

According to reports, at least 12 persons were hit by the train. As of now bodies of two persons have been recovered.

The exact estimate of the number of people who lost their lives has not been revealed yet due to darkness. The rescue operation is also getting delayed due to darkness.

Bengaluru-Yesvantpur Express was passing in the Down line. Meanwhile, dust from the aggregates dumped on the side of the track had enveloped the area making the driver of the train suspect it to be smoke emanating caused by breaking out of fire.

The driver stopped the train following which passengers got down and were run over by a DMU train passing through the Up line.

Railway police and local administration officials have rushed to the spot and search and rescue operations have been launched.
