**Bhubaneswar**: Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind is ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s presidential candidate. This was announced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Monday (June 19).
Born on October 1, 1945 in Paraunkh village under Derapur tehsil in Kanpur district, Ram Nath Kovind is the incumbent Governor of Bihar.
Kovind is a veteran BJP politician. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh (UP) for two terms during 1994-2000 and 2000-2006.
He is an advocate by profession and practises in Delhi.
He is a former president of the BJP Dalit Morcha (1998-2002) as well as former president of the All-India Koli Samaj.
He also served as national spokesperson of the BJP party.
On 8 August 2015, the President of India appointed him the Governor of Bihar.
