New Delhi: The Assembly vote trends in the three northeastern states – Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland are as expected with the BJP and its allies leading the race in Tripura and Nagaland, while Meghalaya is heading towards a hung House.
The trends show that BJP and its allies have already achieved a simple majority in Tripura leading in 29 seats – one short of a majority in a 60-member House, and made a clean sweep in Nagaland leading in 41 seats at 11.00 am. The BJP has taken a clear lead against its nearest rival – the Congress-Left alliance, which is leading in 18 seats.
The Tipra Motha, led by former royal Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, is leading in 11 seats in Tripura.
On the other hand, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidates are leading in 26 seats, while its former ally, the BJP, is leading in four seats. The Trinamool Congress and the United Democratic Party (UDP) are ahead in seven seats each and the Congress in four.
“Tripura will have a BJP Chief Minister, Nagaland will have a coalition government while that of Meghalaya will be decided as per seats won by the BJP,” Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Chief Minister and the BJP’s chief strategist in the northeast, had predicted on Wednesday.
