Bhubaneswar: Health care workers, frontline workers, and persons aged above 60 with co-morbidities are to receive the “Booster Dose” or “Precaution Dose” of Covid-19 vaccine from today.
Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has informed that reminder messages through SMS have been sent to more than one crore healthcare and frontline workers and citizens over 60 years of age for their Precaution Covid-19 vaccine doses.
The feature of online appointment for precautionary dose was made operational on the CoWIN portal on Saturday late night. Those who have taken 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine can directly take an appointment or walk-in to any Vaccination Centre.
The exercise is being taken up as per the Central government guidelines. Only those who have taken their second dose before 9 months will be eligible for the precautionary vaccine dose.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced on December 25 that the vaccination process of third precautionary dose for health workers, frontline workers, and vulnerable senior citizens will begin from January 10.
The ministry has also made it clear that the precautionary Covid vaccine dose will be the same vaccine as has been given to beneficiaries previously as the primary dose.
