New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the inclusion of Jamrani Dam multipurpose project in Uttarakhand under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (PMKSY-AIBP).
The project envisages the construction of a dam near Jamrani village across river Gola — a tributary of river Ram Ganga, in Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
The dam would feed the existing Gola barrage.
The Central assistance for the project will be in the proportion of 90 per cent (Centre):10 per cent (state) for the balance works components of the project under PMKSY-AIBP.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2,584.10 crore, including Rs 1,557.18 crore Central assistance to Uttarakhand.
The scheduled completion of the project is March, 2028.
The project will facilitate additional irrigation of 57,000 hectares in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, and also in Rampur and Bareilly districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to this, 42.70 million cubic metre (MCM) of drinking water to Haldwani and nearby areas will be provided through the project, benefitting more than 10.65 lakh population, sources said.
