Bhubaneswar: While it was a sweeping victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab it was a complete rout of big names who had dominated the State’s politics.
Prominent among the losers are former Chief Ministers Prakash Singh Badal and Captain Amarinder Singh, sitting Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, former deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia.
While Prakash Singh Badal lost to AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Kudian from Lambi Assembly seat which was considered as his fiefdom, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh who had contested from his Patiala bastion lost to Ajit Pal Singh Kohli of AAP.
Similarly, sitting Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi lost the Bhadaur seat to Labh Singh of AAP.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, a former deputy Chief Minister lost to AAP’s Jagdeep Kamboj.
Navjot Sidhu, the state Congress chief lost the Amritsar East seat to AAP’s Jeevanjyot Kaur.
Manpreet Singh Badal, the state’s Finance Minister was trounced by AAP’s Jagroop Gill from his Bathinda (Urban) seat.
