Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm ‘Mandous’ over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved nearly west-northwestwards with a speed of 08 kmph during past 3 hours, and lay centered at 0230 hours IST of today, December 8, over Southwest Bay of Bengal about 360 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 480 km east-southeast of Jaffna (Sri Lanka), 530km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 620 km southeast of Chennai.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic storm is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a maximum sustained wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph around mid night of December 9.
Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places is very likely over coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and isolated heavy rainfall over adjoining areas of south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on December 8.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over north coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over north interior Tamilnadu and adjoining Rayalaseema on December 9.
It is likely to reduce to light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over north Tamilnadu and Rayalaseema and south Andhra Pradesh on December 10.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 8; Southwest Bay of Bengal during December 8 to 10; along and off Sri Lanka coast during December 8 to 9; and along & off Tamilnadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coasts and Gulf of Mannar during December 8 to 10. Fishermen out at sea advised to return to the coast or move to the safe area.
