Bhubaneswar/Bengaluru: Though starting a donkey farm may sound unusual to many, a former techie in Karnataka saw great opportunity in the idea and it has fetched him a business of over Rs 17 lakh in a matter of few weeks.
Srinivas Gowda, 42, officially launched his donkey farm at a village in the Dakshina Kannada district on June 8. Gowda, who worked for a software company, had quit his job in 2020 and had founded Isiri farms on a 2.3-acre site in Ira village.
He was earning a good income through goat and poultry farming and recently decided to venture into donkey farming beginning with 20 donkeys because of the benefits of donkey milk.
As a matter of fact, donkey milk is a powerhouse of nutrients for both the skin and body. It has four times the amount of Vitamin C than cow’s milk. Donkey milk is used for anti-aging and healing, is packed with antioxidants and nutrients, and works as a powerful skin moisturizer and softener.
Gowda plans to market donkey’s milk. It will be available at malls, shops, and supermarkets at a price of Rs 150 for each 30ml packet. He has already received orders totaling Rs 17 lakhs.
