Bhubaneswar: The Cyclonic Storm FANI (pronounced as FONI) over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 16 kmph in last six hours, intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm.
The system, at 5:30 pm on Monday was located 620 kms east-northeast of Trincomalee, 770 kms east-southeast of Chennai and 900 kms south-southeast of Machilipatnam, a bulletin released by the IMD at 9 pm on Monday stated.
“It is very likely to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours and into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards till May 1 evening and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards towards Odisha coast,” the latest IMD bulletin added.
