India celebrates the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas today to honour the Kargil war heroes. Functions are organized all over the country to commemorate the contribution of armed forces.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar along with the chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Force pay tribute to the martyrs of the war at India Gate in the national capital.
Kargil war was fought with Pakistan on 3 May, 1999 which continued for 60 days, concluding on 26th July. On this day,in 1999, India took command of the high outposts successfully which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked this day with a series of tweets on Tuesday morning.
