Bhubaneswar: Basant Rath, the 2000-batch Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officer who had resigned from service on June 25, wants to contest the election in the State against former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
“If the BJP high-command allows me, I’ll contest against Omar Abdullah who was my chief minister when I was the police chief in Jammu, and Mehbooba Mufti who was my chief minister when I was the chief of traffic police in Jammu and Kashmir,” read a tweet on the unverified handle of Rath,
The senior IPS officer has reportedly joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after his resignation.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, he had sought voluntary retirement and had mentioned his wish to join electoral politics in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
