Bhubaneswar: The 29 Maoists who were gunned down by the security forces in Chhattisgarh were planning to create a major violence just before the general election. It was informed by the Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P at a press conference in Chhattisgarh.
Of the 29 killed in the encounter, 15 were women cadres, the IG added. The post-mortem of the bodies is being conducted, he added.
“We have recovered 29 bodies were recovered, out of which 15 were female and 14 were male. Arms and ammunition were recovered in large quantities. The autopsy of bodies of Maoists are underway,” he informed at a press meet.
The slain Ultras are yet to be identified. Many of them are believed to be of north Bastar division of Maoists. Some were also senior cadres, the IG added. Efforts are on to establish their identity, he added.
Three security personnel including a BSF inspector, a DRG soldier were injured in retaliation. Two of them are out of danger.
They are being treated in Raipur, the IG added.
The officials said that graded weapons which were seized after the operation will be identified soon.
