Money Recovered By Stopping Corruption Will Fund Welfare Schemes: Amit Shah In Bengal

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that money recovered and saved by curbing corruption in West Bengal would be utilised for welfare activities if the BJP comes to power in the state after the forthcoming Assembly elections.

“In our election manifesto, we have promised to pay a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 to women and unemployed youths of the state. I heard that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had raised the question of where we will be getting the money to pay this enhanced allowance. I want to tell her that the money that will be recovered and saved by stopping the rampant corruption in her regime will be utilised for meeting the expenditure for such welfare activities,” the Union Home Minister said while addressing a campaign rally at Raniganj in West Burdwan district on Monday afternoon.

This was the third campaign rally addressed by Shah on Monday, with the earlier two being at Bolpur and Khayrasole, both in Birbhum district.

He also said that the security arrangements in the two-phase polls on April 23 and April 29 will be such that the goons enjoying the backing of Trinamool Congress will not have the courage to intimidate any voter this time.

“I am warning the goons of the ruling party. They should remain at their homes on the polling day or be prepared for strong action,” Shah said.

Commenting on the recent video released by Trinamool Congress accusing former party legislator Humayun Kabir of entering into a deal with the BJP to divide minority votes, Shah said that it would be wrong to think Kabir as separate from the Trinamool Congress.

“In reality, he is the henchman of Mamata Banerjee. BJP will never hold hands with that person who wants to set up a Babri Mosque in West Bengal,” the Union Home Minister said.

The state is going to the polls in two phases — on April 23 and April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
