No Quid Pro Quo With Maoists To Secure CoBRA Jawan’s Release: Chhattisgarh Police

Malkangiri: Chhattisgarh police today issued a clarification on rumours about the release of an arrested Maoist in exchange for CoBRA Jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas who was abducted by the ultras after Tekalgudem encounter on April 3 in Bijapur district.

IG Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P said that no arrested Maoist has been released to secure the release of abducted CoBRA jawan. “So far, no one has been arrested in relation to Tekalgudem encounter case. Few villagers have accompanied jawans after the encounter upto the base camp and returned back to their respective villages in due course of time.”

“Sukka Kunjam of Tekalgudem, whose name is being mentioned in the media/social media messages might be one such villager who accompanied Police team upto base camp after the encounter. He is believed to have safely returned back to the village,” Sundarraj added.

In some sections of the media and social media there were reports about release of a Maoist to secure the safe release of Manhas which has been dismissed by the Chhattisgarh police.
