PM Meets CMs: Do Not Worry About Numbers, Proactive Testing Is The Key, Says Modi

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to States to focus on COVID-19 testing. During this phase of COVID resurgence, most of the cases are asymptomatic. “So, the infected person mingles with others in the family knowing little that they are getting infected. So, aggressive testing is the only way out to check the spread of coronavirus,” Modi said during a meeting with Chief Ministers today.

Modi highlighted on contact tracing and said at least 30 persons should be tested during this phase. “Our target is to do 70% RT-PCR tests and these tests should be done appropriately, not superficially. We need to bring positivity rate below 5 per cent,” he said.

“Let the number of positive cases be high, but do maximum testing. Only if we test, we can treat. Proper sample collection is very important. Teams can be set up to follow up on proper testing and contact tracing,” the PM said and added that the situation is challenging. “I request you all to give your suggestions to tackle the COVID19 situation.”

“COVID mortality rate should be checked and brought down. Our focus should be on – Trace, test & treat, COVID appropriate behaviour and COVID management. We must concentrate on micro-containment zones,” he added.

The Prime Minister said wherever there is a night curfew, States can use the word ‘Corona Curfew’, to continue alertness about coronavirus. “It will be better to start curfew timing from 9 pm or 10 pm till 5 am or 6 am.”

“We cannot afford to be complacent after getting the vaccines. Even after getting vaccinated, the use of masks and social distance is very important. ‘Dawai Bhi Aur Kadai Bhi’, I repeat this once again,” said Modi and suggested all-party meetings in States to come up with constructive suggestions.
