Bhubaneswar: Rajesh Verma, a seasoned Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with over 35 years of experience, has taken over as the chairperson of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas.
He succeeds Dr. M M Kutty, whose three-year tenure has ended.
Verma’s extensive background includes serving as Secretary to President Droupadi Murmu until his recent superannuation on August 31.
His diverse experience spans various central and state government departments. Verma has also worked at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs; Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare; Ministry of Power; Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC), New Delhi; Departments of Education, Steel & Mines, Agriculture and Energy under Govt of Odisha; Industrial Development Corporations under Govt of Odisha and Govt of Rajasthan, etc.
These organisations or departments are key stakeholders in addressing the issue of air pollution, read a statement by the CAQM Monday.
His expertise is expected to bolster the CAQM’s efforts in improving air quality in the region.
