Bhubaneswar: In a significant operation, nine Naxalites were neutralized during a fierce encounter with security forces in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
The gunbattle erupted around 10:30 AM in a forested area on the border between Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
This joint operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who were acting on intelligence reports of Naxalite presence from the West Bastar division.
The intermittent exchange of fire persisted for an extended period, culminating in the recovery of the bodies of nine Naxalites clad in uniforms.
A substantial cache of weapons was also seized from the site. Remarkably, all security personnel involved in the operation emerged unscathed, and the search operation in the area is ongoing.
The Bastar region, which includes seven districts such as Dantewada and Bijapur, has witnessed several such operations.
With this encounter, the total number of Naxalites killed in various confrontations in Chhattisgarh this year has risen to 154, according to police sources.
