Bhubaneswar: An Indian student Harjot Singh was shot multiple times while trying to escape from Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in a cab last week. Singh sustained multiple injuries including a fractured leg and lay along the road for hours until an ambulance took him to hospital.
Singh, a resident of Delhi, is desperate to move out of the war-torn nation and be with his family. “However, the conversations with officials have been frustrating so far,” he said.
Singh says he was not allowed to board a train at the Kyiv station, so he and his friends hired a cab to Lviv. They were on their way out of Kyiv when “many people” started shooting at their cab.
The youth sustained bullet injuries in the chest and knee. He was shot on Sunday night and has since been in the hospital, 20 minutes from the Indian Embassy, said Singh.
“I contacted the embassy people and asked if they can provide the facility to take me to Lviv. Their response was disappointing,” he said. Singh narrated his ordeal over a video call to his mother. He said he could hear bombs, firing, missiles every day, and appeals for immediate evacuation.
