Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today granted interim bail to Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV in the case concerning the suicide of architect-interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik.
The vacation bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Justices DY Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee allowed Goswami and other co-accused on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 each in an abetment to suicide case.
The apex court ruled that the High Court was in error in rejecting the application for grant of interim bail to Goswami.
The top court said High Courts were not doing enough in matters where personal liberty is denied.
The vacation bench made the observations while hearing Goswami’s plea challenging the Bombay HC order.
It directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure the order is followed immediately.
Goswami and two others — Feroze Shaikh and Nitish Sarda — were arrested on November 4 and have been in judicial custody.
