New Delhi: Three people were killed and eight others injured after a van collided with a DTC bus in northeast Delhi, an official said.
Due to the impact of the accident on the flyover near Loni Gol Chakkar in Jyoti Nagar on Wednesday, the vehicles were mangled.
One of the victims was identified as Savita (55), while the identities of the two other males remain unknown.
The injured were identified as Nitesh (25), his two sisters aged 14 and nine, Nand Kishore Chowdhary (45), his wife Reena (42), Kishore’s 14-year-old son, Moti Singh (35) and Manzoor Ansari (35).
According to police, the collision occurred around 12.30 p.m., when a Maruti Eeco van, driven by Moti Singh, crossed the road divider and crashed head-on into a DTC bus coming from the opposite direction.
The DTC bus was en route from Bhajanpura to Nand Nagri, while the van was traveling in the opposite direction, serving as a taxi with 11 passengers on board.
The injured were promptly transported to GTB Hospital, where three people were pronounced dead. Eight others are currently receiving medical treatment and some of them are critical, said the official.
Among the deceased was Savita, the mother-in-law of Nand Kishore, who was also an occupant in the van.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said that a case is being registered at Jyoti Nagar Police Station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
