Two Women Maoists Killed In Encounter With Chhattisgarh Police At Dantewada

Makangiri: Two women Maoists were killed in an encounter with the forces in Dantewada district of Chhattisarh on Monday. The forces recovered two firearms including a pistol from the site. According to the police, the forces were carrying out a search operation on the basis of a tip-off received last evening in Palnar region.

There were around a dozen Maoists who fled from the spot after sensing movement of the district reserve guard (DRG). “They were followed by the security personnel and there was an exchange of fire at intervals for more than an hour,” Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava said.

“The encounter took place in between 5 pm and 6:30 pm. They were planning to plant an IED. However, the ultras retreated taking advantage of darkness. After the firing was over, a search operation was carried out during which bodies of two female Maoists were recovered,” he added.

The deceased Maoists were identified as Ayte Mandavi and Vijje Markam. Mandavi was a member of the Malangir area committee and regional head of military intelligence. She was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head. Markam, with a reward of Rs 2 lakh on her head, was a senior member of the Maoist military intelligence wing.
