New Delhi: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Rubio expressed US support for direct dialogue between the two countries and encouraged efforts to improve communication.
Rubio also conveyed his condolences for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed the US commitment to collaborate with India in combating terrorism.
“Secretary Marco Rubio spoke today with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The Secretary emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation,” US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
“He expressed US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged continued efforts to improve communications. The Secretary reiterated his condolences for the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism,” he further added.
