Bhopal:  Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Thursday that a ‘Viksit Bharat’ requires a ‘Viksit Madhya Pradesh’, adding that enhanced financial grants from the Centre would enable Madhya Pradesh to meet the economic challenges and to achieve long-term objectives.

He stressed that a ‘Viksit Bharat’ requires a ‘Viksit Madhya Pradesh’, urging an increase in the state’s share of central taxes from 44 per cent to 48 per cent.

He stated that the central and state governments share the common objective of establishing a welfare state, which can be achieved through better coordination and mutual harmony.

Chief Minister emphasised that Madhya Pradesh, being a large state along with a large population of ST/SC, has equally significant needs.

He advocated for expectations highlighting the need for financial resources for the state during a meeting with the 16th Finance Commission led by Arvind Pangariya at the Kushabhau Thakare convention center in Bhopal on Thursday.

The Commission, led by Chairperson Arvind Pangariya, along with its four members, is on a visit to Madhya Pradesh to assess the finance assistance from the Centre through the tax devolution system.

Later, addressing the press, Pangariya said that the Madhya Pradesh government has made an impressive presentation to push its demands during the meeting and the commission has noted them.

“As the commission is tasked to engage with the representatives of states to assess the financial requirement and to make recommendations accordingly before the Centre for the tax devolution, as of now no decision has been taken. MP government’s demands would be presented by the Centre,” Pangariya said.

He further stated that the 16th Finance Commission has visited 28 states so far, including Madhya Pradesh and three-four more states are yet to be visited.
