Malkangiri: A wanted Maoist with a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head was killed during an encounter in a forest under Naimed Police Station limit in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Friday.
The deceased Maoist was identified as Ritesh Punem, who was the commander of the Sendra Local Organisation Squad of the Maoists.
Reportedly, a joint team of district reserved guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were out on anti-Naxal operation when the encounter broke between them and the Maoists.
After the exchange of fire, the Punem’s body along with a gun, pistol, and other Maoist materials were recovered from the spot.
One DRG jawan identified as Ramlu Hemla sustained minor injuries during the encounter. His condition is stated to be stable.
