**Nellore**: A sub-inspector and a constable were beaten up inside their own police station by an angry mob in Nellore district’s Rapuru area on Wednesday evening.
Last evening, a group of people rattled the gate of the police station and barged into. They pounced down on one policeman and brutally thrashed him. In the video, it can be seen that men and women are thrashing a policeman in civil clothes, almost tearing his shirt.
Another policeman was punched when he was trying to pacify the irate locals and was filming the incident.
According to reports, the mob was irked at the move of the SI who had called in three locals for questioning regarding a money dispute case and had allegedly beaten one of them inflicting serious internal injuries.
The SI’s actions angered the victim’s relatives who virtually laid siege on the police station in a group of more than hundred and also in an allegedly inebriated state.
The incident occurred when the man who was meted out third degree by the SI was being shifted to a local hospital following grievous internal injuries.
However, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Babu, told local reporters that the mob questioned the move of the police as they had detained a drunken man and had sent him to the hospital to get a certificate.
The SI suffered a head injury in the incident while 3 constables also suffered minor injuries.
While the cops are undergoing treatment at a hospital, the exact reason behind the angry mob’s violence is yet to be ascertained.
