Sundargarh: In a case of alleged custodial death, an arrested youth was found hanging in the bathroom of the police station on Wednesday night.

The youth identified as Jai Lakra of Raika Kachhar village under Kutunia Panchayat. Lakra had been arrested by the Rajgangpur police two days back on charges of duping money.

Reportedly, Lakra had collected money from some locals on the pretext of depositing it in the bank for them. However, no deposits had been made in the bank, the locals alleged. Following that they filed a police complaint against the youth.

Soon after, he had been held for interrogation into the matter. However, he allegedly hung himself to death in the bathroom of the police station last night.

Meanwhile relatives of deceased have alleged police atrocities during his custody. While tribal leader and MLA of Biramitrapur condemned the incident, the aggrieved tribals and local villegers staged protest and gheraoed police station demanding judicial enquiry and action against IIC and SDPO.

15 Platoons force have been deployed in the area DIG (WR) Kabita Jalan and SP (SNG) Soumya Mishra along with other higher officials are also camping at Rajgangpur to prevent any untoward incident.
