‘Ragging’ In OUAT: Two Students Beaten Up, Injured, FIR Lodged

Bhubaneswar: Despite a blanket ban being imposed and even after the Supreme Court’s stricture on campus ragging across India, campus ragging of two juniors surfaced in Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here today.

Reportedly, two students of Plus Three First Year (Agriculture) were asked by their seniors as to why they shifted out of the hostel. When the students kept mum, they were allegedly beaten up in the college campus. The senior also made them kneel down and hit them with a iron rod, stated reports.

The victims called up their relatives and lodged a written complaint at Siripur police outpost after the incident. Kumbhakaran Rout, Dean of the University, has ordered a Disciplinary Committee’s probe into the matter.

It is notable to mention here that Odisha stands at No 4 position in ragging, according to data compiled by Union Human Resources Development Ministry from 2013 to 2017. Out of the total 3022 complaints lodged with the University Grants Commission (UGC) during the 5 years, Odisha’s ragging complaints stands at 207.
