Cuttack: A video have surfaced on the social media showing of a youth allegedly being ragged and beaten up on Lalitgiri hostel campus of Ravenshaw University on Monday.

According to reports, the victim, a former student of junior college had come to the varsity to check the entrance results of the Geography Department.

Finding him alone, a group of seniors forcibly dragged him to a hostel and beaten him up.

The 50-second video shows around seven to eight students had made the victim kneel down and hit him all over his body.

Speaking to media, the victim said he was attacked by the students of the varsity over some past rivalry.

He said the same students were punished as they had ragged and assaulted him when he was studying +2 in the junior college in 2015.

The victim informed the matter to his parents and then lodged a complaint with Malgodown police station.

Meanwhile, the varsity Vice Chancellor Prakash Sarangi, however, denied it to be a case of ‘ragging’.

“It could be a violence between two students’ groups and we will take appropriate action against the accused after inquiry,” said Sarangi.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Trinath Mishra said the prime accused has been identified and stern action would be taken against him.
