**Bhubaneswar: ** It’s the 21st century and the means to connect with your loved ones have increased multifold. Connecting with your significant other in each other’s absence only takes the effort of a few touches and swipes. With a few taps on our smart phone, you can send your romantic feelings across the miles to your loved ones. If you don’t have a partner, find them online and even date them online.
In the age of online dating, some may find it to be a fun, easy, and convenient way to meet new people, others believe that dating through the URL has somehow led us into a “dating apocalypse.”
Nevertheless, it has become a very popular way of dating in this present era of stressful lifestyle and hectic schedules.
No one ever said that finding the perfect mate was easy, but the Internet has put almost every single person in your locality at your fingertips. Even a few years ago, Internet dating meant tethering yourself to your computer. Thanks to mobile devices and location-sensing apps, however, the whole world has become your playground for dates, hookups and long-term relationships.
If you are still in search of a valentine for yourself, go ahead and download any of the online dating apps, which can help you find a good match. OkCupid (Android, iOS), Tinder (Android, iOS), Hinge (iOS: $10.99/month), Coffee Meets Bagel (Android, iOS), Grindr (Android, iOS).
With these apps, check out the partners you want to date, hook-up and meet. You may find the right one, or the one you want.
OMMCOM NEWS went on the streets of Bhubaneswar to know the views of its denizens on this latest way of meeting people.
“Online dating is superficial. When you are not seeing each other or meeting each other, there can’t be any depth in such relationship. Online dating has become a pastime,” according to 50-year-old Madhu.
“To propose online is not good at all. Boys find it easier to say anything,” said Linu Singh.
“We are getting a large pool of people to choose from, the options are many and it is upto us how we handle a relationship,” according to Girdhar Sen, another engineering student.
“The skill of communication is lost in the youngsters. By talking to a person, we get to know of lot of things about the person, but online dating has no communication initially. These app make you chat with people with the same interests and opinions. In this process, one tends to miss out many new things one could have experienced with different persons,” opines Switish Mishra, an electronic and communication student.
Online dating allows you to sit in your pajamas, drink a cup of coffee and use the dating site of your choice in hopes of finding the prince charming or princess of your dreams. From the privacy of your own home, you have the opportunity to meet individuals you might never encounter out and about with the typical dating scene. However, despite the convenience of online dating, there is a flip side that you should consider as you attempt to meet people via this medium.
The hazards of online dating can be over-exaggerated. Generally speaking, going to meet someone in person whom you met online is quite risky. The internet can be used to create fake personas and identities, and it’s easy to lie online about background, occupation, and intent. Some sites enable you to find out as much as possible about a date before meeting up in real life, but you should always be wary about meeting people you have been introduced to online. Also avoid divulging personal information early in a relationship.
“It is easier to trick people with edited pictures, easy to communicate and cheat online. One can edit photographs and cheat on people. One can even have multiple affairs,” informed according to Krishna Parekh, 3rd year BTech student.
Youngsters in Bhubaneswar have tapped both the ways of finding their partners, the conventional way of professing their love by sending cards, gifts and spending quality time with their partners; and the more contemporary method of getting connected with partners online to check out whether they are compatible with them or not, or else move to someone else.
