Bhubaneswar: Police arrested one person and seized a massive haul of 1,005 kg of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 10 crore, near the main road of Padua village under Nandapur block of Koraput district on Saturday.
The drugs were being illegally transported from the Buding forest in Koraput district to Rajasthan.
The operation was carried out based on a tip-off; a 7-member team was formed under the leadership of Padua Police Sub-Inspector Himanshu Beniya and Deepak Barik.
Acting swiftly, the team intercepted the consignment, which was cleverly concealed inside a truck disguised as a carrier of Indian Lilac (Neem tree) saplings.
Upon inspection, a special compartment within the truck’s body was discovered to be filled with the illegal cargo. The truck, along with the ganja, was seized on the spot. While the driver was arrested, another person managed to flee the scene.
Following a detailed weighing process, the total amount of seized ganja was confirmed to be 1,005 kg.
The arrested driver is currently in police custody, while efforts are underway to track down the other suspects involved in the operation.
