Bhubaneswar: One person was killed while another person was critically hit when an Ama Bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw at Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the reckless driving of the bus driver led to the accident.

Sources reported the bus hit the auto-rickshaw from behind while it was halted behind a school bus at the busy junction. The impact was so severe that the rickshaw was crushed, killing the auto-driver on the spot. The auto was pushed forward, hitting the school bus and damaging it too. The accident has sparked outrage, with locals demanding action against the bus driver who managed to flee the scene after the mishap.

DCP Jagmohan Meena rushed to the scene and calmed the agitated locals.

He assured strict action against reckless drivers, saying, “We’re taking strict action against reckless drivers. In a recent case, one driver was arrested for culpable homicide. We’re collecting CCTV footage to investigate the accident and will take collective steps to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The accident has raised concerns about road safety, especially during the ongoing Road Safety Week.
